Building orientation-structure-property in laser powder bed fusion of NiTi shape memory alloy

This study is the first on compressive and tensile stress-strain revealing deformation anisotropy among laser powder bed fusion NiTi parts fabricated with same process conditions. We investigated effects of building orientation microstructure resulting shape memory properties. To this end, three orientations were selected, namely 0, 45, 90-degree, measured from build plate parameters. A strong (001) texture was formed along direction for all samples; a different could however be observed loading (LD). Samples 45-degree showed (110) LD, as confirmed through X-ray diffraction backscattered while 0 90 samples still had LD. These variations created anisotropic compression-tension behaviors patterns consistent single crystals. The -textured higher strength lower transformation strain (2.87% @ 200 MPa in tension ?) at stresses (5.31% 150 45 ?). • Thermomechanical behavior shown to affected changing orientations. changes are linked microstructure, texture, variation between direction. Compression-tension asymmetry rationalized explained based active correspondence variant pairs.
